In a surprising move, George Lucas announced today that Lucasfilm, Ltd. had been acquired by the Walt Disney Company for $4 billion. The move comes as a shock to the film industry and certainly to Star Wars and Indiana Jones fans.
The really exciting news is that Disney and Lucas have already revealed plans to continue the Star Wars film series with Episode Seven... planned for release in 2015. They also went on to say that fans can expect a new Star Wars movie every two to three years, including episodes eight and nine! Many devotees are certainly concerned about the future of the franchise, but who else is better equipped to carry on the Star Wars legacy than Disney?
Indy’s future is unclear at this point, but we are hopeful the creative minds at Disney will find a reason for Indiana Jones to dust off his fedora.
